Welcome/Call to Order: President Eileen McNally welcomed all and shared her theme for this month's meeting..."Love and Gratitude"...followed by reading story about a "new lease on life". Be thankful for something each new day!
Invocation: Led by Eileen also. Delicious lunch served by the church.
Program Introduction: Following lunch, we were directed to the sanctuary to hear the fabulous music of the talented Granville High School Steel Drum Band, under the direction of Andrew Krumm.
Business Meeting
Pledge of Allegiance: David Greene led us in the Pledge.
Welcome Visitors/Guests: There were none today.
Secretary’s Report: Members were instructed to took over the minutes from our June Meeting at the tables and make corrections if necessary. Minutes were accepted.
Treasurer’s Report: Treasurer Debra Shelly reports as of end of June 2015:
Checking: $1,224.57; Savings: $1,644.25, Scholarship: $10,596 (which included the $10,000 Stauch scholarship money); CD: $4,695.20. At our June meeting we collected $33 for St. Vincent de Paul, and $83 towards scholarship.
Committees
Community Affairs: David Greene announced that City council has voted against hiring of part time emergency employees. He also shared that there will be a 12 month series of films about labor issues being offered at the GPPA Hall at 350 Hudson Ave. The first movie shown will be Norma Rae, on August 20th. .
Legislative: Sandy Holcombe shared that we should be looking at our ORTA newsletter for updates to current legislation on senate Bill 64. Sandy also announced that our LCRTA executive board has voted they we should get involved with the local "Habitat for Humanity" program; we will find out in what capacity we can be of service.
Membership: See New Business.
Scholarship: We added an additional $77 towards scholarship funds today!
Courtesy: Please add names of any members needing get-well card or uplifting in any way. Many thanks to Elizabeth Troyer for continuing to send out cards to those in need!
Old Business: None
New Business: Two items of importance were discussed. Eileen presented a proposed budget for our 2016 year. She also announced that our current dues of $6 has been in place for a long time, and proposed that we consider an increase of our local dues. Following discussion, first a motion was made by Sandy Holcombe, and seconded by Jackie Cousins to increase our local dues from $6 to $10 for the 2016 school year-all were in favor. Next, motion was made by David Greene, seconded by Judy Patterson, to accept the proposed budget, which includes the dues increase to $10, and allows for monies to be redistributed by the Executive Board as deemed necessary. The motion carried.
Other Announcements: We raised $50 for the food pantry today.
Next Meeting / Donations: Our next meeting will be on October 14th at the Utica United Methodist Church, Utica. Speaker will be Jeff Gill, entitled "Memories of Harvest". You are reminded to bring baby items for our next meeting.
Closing thoughts: Eileen closed today’s meeting with thoughts on "Be thankful today and go out with a cheerful heart!"
