Heritage Hall, Licking County aging Program
Welcome:
President Eileen McNally welcomed all to our June meeting. The theme for the month
was POSSESSIONS! Are they cluttering up your lives? Let go and free up your life!
A delicious lunch was then provided by Creative Catering, who will be catering all of our meals when meeting at Heritage Hall.
Program:
Vice President Karen Butt introduced Gail Dufford from the Scholarship Committee, who presented our Scholarship recipients for this year. Those students able to attend were introduced and shared a little bit about themselves to the group.
The $1,000 Fran Alspauch Scholarship from Johnstown HS was Ryley Dyer, who will be attending OSU Newark.
The Sherry Stauch Scholarship, each receiving $1,000 were Sarah Doran, Granville HS, going to Miami; Dolen Helwagen, Watkins Memorial HS, attending OSU; and Jake Purdy, Granville HS, attending West VA U. We wish them the best in college and their future careers in education!
Next, Karen introduced our speaker, Mark Rehl, President of the local VietNam Veterans of America, Ch 55. He talked about the struggles Vets of the VietNam war era faced when returning home, and how the group, and respect for them has grown over the years. Speaking to us on this Flag Day about respect and honor for the important symbol of our country, that unfortunately doesn’t seem to have as much respect from many today. He also is involved with the Licking County Veterans Alliance, and the service they provide, conducting military graveside services, and presenting flags to the surviving loved ones.
Business Meeting:
Eileen opened business meeting following the Pledge.
