President Sandy Holcombe welcomed everyone-including our Scholarship Recipient, Cailyn Sutliff and her mother. Lunch was served by the Church committee.
Program:
VP Janet Simross introduced or speaker for today, retired educator & administrator, Randy Overbeck. He shared his views on teachers being the real American Heroes, and often not upheld as such by our society. He works with Heroic Teachers Press, only dealing with books by and about teachers…they want to hold teachers in higher esteem—raise the status of our teachers in society. He sited a few examples of teachers who have made such a difference and showed real heroism. Teachers often ask “what difference do I make?” –we have no idea what impact we make on the lives of our students. He has written a fiction novel…”Leave No Child Behind” which he had available for purchase. You can find the book at Barnes & Noble, Amazon.com, etc.
Business Meeting:
Meeting called to order by President Sandy Holcombe, who welcomed several new and newly-returning members.
Mary Ellinger then introduced our Scholarship recipient for the 2014 year, this year from Granville High School, Cailyn Sutliff, who spoke briefly about her goals for the future as she attends Kent State University this fall. She said “it is such a gift to be able to teach others”.
